A number of challenges must be overcome in order to deliver Wi-Fi connectivity in sporting venues. Material construction consisting of steel and concrete tends to impede wireless propagation. The sheer number of connected devices also puts immense pressure on network performance, given the tendency for fans to utilize streaming services as well as to upload photos and video content to social media channels. And, surprisingly, the fans themselves deaden signals given the physiology of the human body and its high composition of water. As a result, football stadiums, baseball fields, and basketball, hockey, and soccer arenas must invest in antennas in the form of chair rails, MatSing balls and distributed antenna systems (DAS), as well as expensive densification technology, including weatherized access points and repeaters. The additional cost associated is often only affordable at the professional sporting venue level.
