Over the last two weeks, our MI&S team attended:  NTT Field Event in Tokyo (Will), SC23 in Denver (Patrick, Matt), Veeam Analyst Summit in Seattle (Robert), RingCentral Virtual Launch Event (Melody), MediaTek Executive Summit (Anshel), Microsoft Ignite virtually (Patrick, Robert, and Will), and Matillion Data Unlocked Summit (Robert – virtual).

Anshel, Will, Paul, Robert, and I are attending AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas this week.

Next week, I will be attending the Lattice Developer Event and the AMD AI Event in San Jose.  Will and I both will be attending Marvell IA Day.

ESG (Melody Brue)

• As measurement tools become more standardized and regulations more widespread, IT plays a more significant role in EGS. While legal and compliance usually take the lead on ESG compliance, a holistic solution requires all lines of business to be involved to cover the entire value chain. This week, SAP demonstrated solutions that specifically address the “S” (social) in ESG and how tools are used to assess and manage risks to people across the value chain. IT plays a significant role in tracking the actions that come out of corporate risk assessments using SAP EHS and SAP Success Factors along with SAP Sustainability Control Tower. SAP demonstrated how these tools make activities in industrial safety, health, and environmental protection, as well as HCM, measurable and auditable. When HR and IT come together as partners instead of order-takers and order-givers, there are countless ways, with technology, that the partnership can serve the greater good and deliver better business outcomes.

Enterprise Data (Robert Kramer)

• During Microsoft Ignite 2023, Microsoft announced the general availability of its Fabric product. Microsoft Fabric is an all-in-one analytics solution for enterprises featuring data movement, data science, real-time analytics, and business intelligence. It provides a range of services in one platform, including data lake, data engineering, and data integration. MS Fabric, a SaaS solution, eliminates the need to use services from multiple vendors by providing a highly integrated, complete, and user-friendly product that simplifies analytics needs. More details will come on MS Ignite 2023.
• Microsoft’s latest announcement about 365 Backup introduces an advanced storage architecture to secure critical data better. 365 Backup targets key MS365 components – SharePoint, OneDrive, and Exchange. SharePoint Backup secures documents and configurations—Microsoft partners with AvePoint, Cohesity, Commvault, Rubrik, Veeam, and Veritas for these advanced capabilities.
• I attended Veeam’s Analyst Summit in Seattle, emphasizing expansion across technology, customers, partners (such as Microsoft and ServiceNow), and improvements to the Veeam Data Platform. It was encouraging to hear about the shift from a product-centric to a customer-centric approach, a focus that is becoming increasingly important and one I’m hearing more frequently from vendors. Veeam has developed an advocacy program, demonstrating a commitment to understanding and addressing customer needs. Plans are underway to expand in 2024, including new product releases for advanced data protection in the first half of the year. I will share more insights in my upcoming article on Veeam.
• Oracle recently released APEX 23.2, designed to help developers be more efficient when creating secure and scalable cloud, mobile, and SaaS apps using low-code methods. This version includes an integrated workflow solution for automating business tasks and a team development feature that lets developers work on a copy of an app for updates or fixes and then merge these back into the main app. Its new UI features have a QR code generator. Oracle APEX is supported by a large community of 700,000 developers who have developed 19 million apps.
• During the Matillion Data virtual summit, new tools for managing unstructured data and leveraging AI to improve data analysis were a focus. The company’s direction is the quality of data for AI models. Tools were presented to process unstructured data like call logs, video feeds, and web content into useful information, such as customer analysis and predictions. Matillion specialty is moving transactional data to cloud data warehouses like Amazon Redshift and Snowflake.
• ERP/SCM – An effective data management strategy is essential for modern businesses, mainly due to the extensive and often under-protected data stored in ERP/SCM systems. These systems, critical for managing functions like finance, human resources, production, and supply chain management, contain more data than typically assumed. Challenges include the data’s location, system complexity, data hygiene practices, and security protocols. Additionally, strategies must account for emerging factors like generative AI and sustainability. My upcoming article will address key elements for successful data management.

• This week, RingCentral introduced RingCentral Events for virtual, onsite, and hybrid events. The platform (formerly known as Hopin Events) was an acquisition that came along with nearly all the company’s employees and a member base of 160,000 customers across 147 countries. RingCentral very cleverly launched the platform on the Events platform on November 14. I was impressed with the RingCentral Events platform and how the company demonstrated the various capabilities of live single-speaker, pre-recorded broadcast, group fireside chat, and live Q&A panel-style presentations. Each one transitioned nicely, and the UX felt seamless. The audience chat was lively, so engagement seemed relatively high (they do have a tool to measure that, although I have not yet gotten those numbers). I think the combined RingCentral and Hopin team redid the branding and UI nicely to fit with RingCentral’s communications and collaborations portfolio while still being familiar to previous Hopin users. The platform is priced starting at $750 a year for unlimited events for up to 100 attendees but can handle capacities of up to 100,000 attendees.
• RingCentral also launched RingCX, its AI-first contact center solution, in the US, Canada, and the UK (France and Germany will follow later this month). RingCentral has secured significant wins with the product in limited preview, including a Fortune 500 company opting for 25,000 MVP and 1,000 RingCX licenses. The company attributes the success of RingCX to disruptive pricing. The solution includes voice, video, and digital channels at $65 per agent per month – a lower cost than many competitors. The company noted that the AI features, including post-call transcriptions and real-time call summaries, have impressed customers during demos. Over half of the RingCX licenses have been sold through partners, which shows strong channel partner engagement.
