Bill Curtis is the Moor Insights & Strategy Analyst in Residence for large-scale Internet of Things systems. Bill helps enterprises design distributed solutions that integrate the full end-to-end IoT stack from real-world devices to analytics.
Bill’s interest in heterogeneous distributed systems began at Landmark Graphics (now part of Halliburton) where he pioneered interactive 3D interpretation systems for large geoscience data sets. This led to a decade at Dell designing computing platforms, display systems, and software supply chain architectures for mainstream markets. He was CTO of the Consumer and Displays groups for most of his time at Dell with responsibility for platform innovation. After Dell, Bill was Senior Fellow and Design Engineer at AMD where he architected embedded security systems and vision-based human interface technologies. Most recently, he was Principal Strategist for Arm’s IoT group while it grew from a small embedded team to a full-stack platform spanning devices, connectivity, and analytics. He was also a founder and board member of Thread Group, the provider of a standards-based IP network protocol for low power devices.
Drawing on his industry knowledge and experience spanning silicon and software across a wide range of mass-market computing platforms, Bill is currently focused on addressing the fundamental barriers that are limiting the growth of IoT deployments. Specifically, this involves transitioning IoT implementation strategies from highly customized, costly, risky, one-off mashups to mainstream platforms with plug-and-play application components, efficient supply chains, and predictable cost structures
