RESEARCH PAPER: Highlights of the Fall 2014 ONUG Meeting

The Open Networking User Group (ONUG) recently met in New York City to review progress on their exiting open networking user cases and determine the next three areas that the group would focus.  Under the backdrop of networking giant Cisco announcing soft earnings, in part because of its customers' desire to move to open networking, the market is clearly having an impact on the proprietary nature of products.  Moor Insights & Strategy took part in the meeting in order to help capture not only the customer specifics but also the spirit of the open networking movement.  Our paper outlines what the largest customers are looking for today, as well as where they will be focused in the future. On October 28th and 29th, a host of IT technology and business professionals joined together in New York City at the offices of Credit Suisse to discuss their challenges, collaborate towards a common set of needs that could be shared with the industry and share best practices with regards to overcoming the limitations of today’s networking. With a strong showing from the financial community, along with key representatives from other sectors like pharmaceuticals, retail and transportation, the meeting helped to cement the future of open networking.
